Recent forests and canyons of the city of Cuernavaca, the Chichinautzin Biological Corridor, at risk for the possible construction Bypass northwest of the city of Cuernavaca.

Background:


The Bypass highway project northwest of the city of Cuernavaca (LNCC) promoted by the Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT) and the Government of the State of Morelos has been of great concern among the community of Morelos for endangering the last remaining forests and ravines Cuernavaca Township and part of the Protected Natural Area (PNA) Chichinautzin Corridor.

This project simmering for several years has been a factor of discontent from various sectors of society, while accepting the need to progress, it will not necessarily be at the expense of the destruction of natural resources

In 2005, the environmental impact statement (EIS) of LNCC, joined the Directorate General of Environmental Impact and Risk of the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) was discarded after that academics deemed it as containing serious deficiencies and lack of biodiversity in these forests and ravines. However, the SCT aims to present the MIA again, even when the team of scholars have demonstrated that this project technically affect these ecosystems .

Faced with the danger of impact on forests and cliffs of the northwest of Cuernavaca because of this highway project, early 2005 academics and environmentalists came together to seek a dialogue with the authorities involved in this project with the aim of finding alternatives that do not affect stroke forests and ravines.
