Response Cuernavaca statements
Mayor Manuel Martinez Garrigós northwest around
Bypass The Bypass highway project has historically northwest been rejected by a large part of the communities of Santa Maria del Monte Tetela and Chamilpa, as well as by environmentalists, academics and citizens who have technically and scientifically proven that this highway project, if realized, would cause irreversible damage to strategic ecosystems. Among the major and unavoidable risks of involvement would be an uncontrollable urbanization eventually end up with the forests and ravines of Chamilpa, Santa Maria, and Tetela del Monte, and part of the protected area Chichinautzin Biological Corridor, putting in grave risk of water supply and other environmental services to Cuernavaca municipality and metropolitan area.
The above, was repeatedly expressed to Mr. Manuel Martínez Garrigós in environmental and academic meetings we held with him before he took office as mayor of Cuernavaca. In these meetings, we expressed its opposition to the northwest Bypass project and said he would support the alternative road that environmentalists, academics and communities have to be proposing to the Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT) for 6 years, which involves the construction of a high level on the Current Bypass Cuernavaca, in order to avoid causing severe impairment to the forests and ravines of the construction of the Bypass Cuernavaca northwest. However, we have learned through the media, that the Mayor of Cuernavaca has met and has indicated to the SCT as correct by the construction of the northwest bypass, further, that as Mayor intercede to convince Santa Maria community, environmentalists, and academics that allow the execution of the highway project.
request a meeting with Manuel Martínez Garrigós to confirm whether or not statements made to the press remains, however, has not responded to our request, so we settled that statements by Garrigós attributed with respect to support Bypass northwest are true.
For the above and through this, we respond publicly to the mayor's statements of Mr. Manuel Martínez Garrigos Cuernavaca according to the statement made by him in the media in recent days:
1. Forests and ravines Cuernavaca, our natural resources, public works projects, should NOT be used as playing politics, economic interests and turvias negotiations between governments and political parties.
2. Both representatives of Santa Maria, Chamilpa and Tetela del Monte, environmentalists and citizens undersigned reaffirm our opposition to the construction of the northwest bypass. Under no circumstances accept calls from public officials seeking to convince us otherwise.
3. Ecological Program and Planning of the Municipality of Cuernavaca (POET) was published on May 1, 2009, in the Official Journal Tierra y Libertad, provides that all the forests and ravines of Cuernavaca are protected. The POET, by law, can not be modified in the next three years, so it has to be taken into account and respected by municipal, state and federal levels. Environmentalists and organized citizens, certainly, we will fight and fight for the integrity of the POET.
In their campaign promises, Manuel Martinez Garrigos, cuernavacenses pledged to protect and conserve forests and canyons, Cuernavaca, we hope that this commitment is fully met, and what we do today delivered a letter with an exhortation to not support the northwest Bypass project and instead boost the alternative road construction for a high level on the current Bypass Cuernavaca, in safeguarding our forests and ravines of Cuernavaca.
